FIRST DONATION OF BOOKS FOR THE INSTITUTO ESTADO DE ISRAEL IN JERUSALEN, LA PAZ
The Tikun Olam Committee of the Salvadoran Jewish Community is proud to inform about the first donation of text books for the Instituto Estado de Israel in Jerusalén, La Paz.
This event was held on Tuesday, May 27th thanks to the support of ROI, an organization based in Israel whose global vision is to help change the face of the Earth through funding of creative projects. ROI donated $4,000.00 to make this project come true. This first donation comprises 280 text books for all the grades in the institute about the basic subjects approved by the Salvadoran Education Ministry: Language, Math, Science and Social Studies. Next July we’ll be back in the institute to complete the donation with books about Algebra, Physics, Chemistry, etc.
This first part of the project “Books for the Instituto Estado de Israel in Jerusalén, La Paz” included the attendance of Nancy Sternfels, Ricardo Freund, our Rabbi Pablo Berman and myself. In the institute, the students had prepared a nice welcome reception inside one of the classrooms, where the director of the institute and a group of parents, teachers and students thanked us with a special speech, the staging of a poem by Alfredo Espino and a various folk dances. We also had the chance to talk about this project, about what ROI is and its goals and how they made this donation possible. The event was closed with a Salvadoran breakfast of pupusas and coconut water. We felt really thanked by everyone in the institute.
After the event, we held a meeting with the teachers of the institute, who informed us about their most immediate needs and the various projects they have for the near future. The Tikun Olam Committee will keep on working to make this projects come true.
